Recipes for winter solstice celebration
Winter Solstice is the darkest day of the year, and therefore also the tipping point back into the light. Traditionally people would light big bonfires and stay up until dawn, keeping vigil as the sun is reborn. The yule log is a remnant of this tradition, as they would choose a large log that would burn all night.
Because this is the tipping point back into the light. It is a good time to consider what of the year that has been we wish to release. we symbolically feed these things to the fire, buy tying strings around our chosen yule log.
On a personal level, this is a time for deep rest. It is a time when our subconscious is actively dreaming new things into being, things that will not float up into our consciousness until the days grow longer.
The food for this holiday focuses on symbology. Warming foods that come from hotter climates, or foods that are symbolic of the sun.
